|The New Opera | Northern Berkshire County | 2007
The New Opera, based in Williamstown, MA was founded in the spring of 2003. The vocal company of The New Opera consisted mainly of young artists who are preparing for careers as professional singers. Performances normally featured the participation of one or two veteran artists. In this way, the projects provided younger artists with the opportunity to perform major roles with orchestra while also offering them the chance to learn from more seasoned performers. In collaboration with Williams College, Aspen Music Festival and The Berkshire Opera Company, The New Opera Company exposed under-served constituencies of the Northern Berkshire area to opera performance. The New Opera's productions were an exciting way to expose area residents and students to the wonderful world of opera.
