|Irish Heritage Month | Lawrence | 2007
Irish Heritage month in Lawrence was an inclusive community celebration featuring 20 individual events over the course of March. The events included a literature exhibit, an art exhibit, children's story telling (featuring the Irish vice-consul), two authors' weekends, a film festival, concerts ranging from pipe bands to a traditional Irish music recital for voice and piano, a performance by the internationally known performers Cherish the Ladies, a parade, a ballet, a road race and a dinner dance. Lawrence is known as "Immigrant City." Events organized around the city's ethnic roots have traditionally played a large role in uniting its very diverse community. Irish Heritage Month and many other ethnic celebrations were dear to the hearts of all Lawrencians, such as the Italian Feast of the Three Saints and the Latino Semana Hispana.
