|Lift Ev’ry Voice Festival | Pittsfield | 2016
Lift Ev’ry Voice offers a biannual summer festival and other events that celebrate the freedom of all Americans by celebrating African Americans and their rich traditions of community, arts, culture, history, and heritage in Berkshire County and the African Diaspora. The Festival, first held to great acclaim in 2011, takes place from mid-June to early September, and encompasses an array of events, talks, performances, community celebrations, and family events at many venues across the Berkshires. In 2015 the Festival inaugurated a youth program for ages 13-18. The 2015 Lift Ev'ry Voice Festival celebrated the 150th anniversary of the United States being a free country with the passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution ending slavery. The Festival opened on Juneteenth, the oldest celebration of African Americans being free in the United States.
